All Good Things Must Come to an End

Protecting our literature!

Protecting our literature!

Wow! What a fantastic event! The Tampa Bay area deserves a sincere pat on the back for being so open and receptive to the first ever Worldwide Vegan Bake Sale. Who knew Tampa was such a hoppin’ and vegan-friendly community?

It rained and lightning struck, but we were still able to deliver lots of homemade, delicious, and cruelty-free baked goods to the hungry masses. Over the course of our two-day sale, we were able to raise over $350.00 for the wonderful organization Florida Voices for Animals! According to an email from Jodi of FVA, “We have a lot of exciting plans coming up including grocery store vegan tours and an advertising campaign that this will help with.” So we are so happy that we were able to do a little good for such a great cause.

Thank you so much to Joan, Diane, Suzanne, Spencer, Andrea, Lynn of the Ybor Market, Dan, and my dear old mom and dad for all the help with the sale. We are already talking about next year and coming back to the market soon for more events!

Without further ado, photos of Day Two of the sale. Click on the thumbnails below for a larger picture:

The End is Nigh…

Tomorrow is the very last day of the Tampa Vegan Bake Sale! You do not want to miss all the delicious goodies. What’s better than eating a vegan 3-nut cookie? Eating a vegan 3-nut cookie with the knowledge that it is not only spreading awareness of veganism, but that the money earned is going towards such a fantastic cause.

Let’s try and outdo last week’s number so we can really do something great for Florida Voices for Animals!

Hope to see you there!

What You Can Do to Help

The excitement is building as more and more people are offering to get involved! Thanks so much to Jodi from Florida Voices for Animals for featuring the Tampa Vegan Bake Sale in a news alert on their Tampa Area Animal Rights Meetup Group!

Here’s the type of help we need from volunteers:

1. First and foremost, spread the word! Pass out flyers in your area (I will make some available for download, so keep checking back for info), tell your friends…anything you can think of to get the word out.I will also be writing a press release to submit to local media outlets with the hope of boosting turnout.

TampaVeganBakeSaleDonateButton2. Donate funds. I have added a button here and on the about page that will allow you to make donations through PayPal. Anything you can afford to give would be such a big help in covering the cost of the location, ingredients, materials, and flyers. I am not doing this for profit, so this is isn’t some get rich scheme I’ve assembled. I am trying to get a rough idea of how much this bake sale will cost, paying it upfront, and am still deciding what to do with funds. My intent is to donate proceeds to an animal rights organization in the area. Keep checking back for information on that as well.

3. Get baking! I will be making a ton of baked goods, but if anyone wants to contribute I would love to have a large variety. Contact me about the types of baked goods you would like to contribute, I am open for ideas! I will also be posting more information about wrapping and preparing the food.

4. Contribute your time. I would love for volunteers to join me at the event to spread the word about the sale, sell some goods, and talk to people about the importance of veganism. And selfishly, I would love to meet some like-minded folks who care about the rights of animals and living a life that is cruelty-free!

Again, contact me below or at elizabeth.holli@gmail.com with any questions or comments. Or, follow me on twitter. Thanks!

Calling all Tampa Bay Vegans!

Calling all VegansThis is just a reminder that anyone interested in getting involved with the Tampa Vegan Bake Sale is more than welcome! This is for the greater Tampa Bay area, so all you Pasco and Pinellas County kids are invited to join us as well. And because as of now this is the only sale participating in the Worldwide Vegan Bake Sale in the whole state of Florida, out-of-towners are invited!

Confirmation, Cookies, and Cupcakes (Oh my!)

576613_oven_knob

Great news! Ybor City Saturday Market has approved our vendor application and confirmed our space for the Tampa Vegan Bake Sale! Now it’s just a matter of picking out the most mouth-watering recipes and designing literature to pass out at the event. The current results of the poll show that 60% of you would most like to see cookies at the event. I am happy to oblige as cookies are fun to make and should keep well on a hot, summer day. After all, who doesn’t like eating an ooey-gooey chocolate chip cookie and washing it down with a swig of iced tea in the Florida heat? Well, maybe that’s just me.

20% of you said you would like to see muffins. This is great, too, as this bake sale is kicking off early in the morning and muffins go great with breakfast. The remaining 20% of you stated like you would like to see “other,” yet left no details as to what that “other” pertained to. I’m not a mind reader, people!

1077759_cupcakes_3Luckily, I have big ideas for that “other” category. And that’s some really beautiful, really delicious vegan cupcakes! Missy and the good folks at Groovy Vegetarian were kind enough to send me Vegan Cupcakes Take Over the World, a vegan dessert cookbook by Isa Chandra Moskowitz and Terry Hope Romero. I definitely plan to feature some very special, very cruelty-free cupcakes at the sale.

Everyday I am getting more people volunteering to help. I am getting so excited to get started and hopefully talk to a lot of Tampa folk about the joys of going vegan.

So mark your calendars now everyone:
